This is the birthplace of Kurume-born artist Hanjiro Sakamoto. Today, this location is a valued historical heritage (designated by the city government as a Tangible Cultural Property) as it is the only former samurai residence in existence within Kurume City.
Preserved here are the tea room where his close friend Shigeru Aoki stayed for a considerable amount of time, as well as a replica of the fusuma painting believed to have been drawn by both Sakamoto and Aoki.
